The Intake Coordinator manages the intake and administrative aspects of the legal program, assists in various legal matters including the preparation and filing of legal documents with the courts, provides primary staff support to the Legal Director, and helps manage requests for legal assistance. Responsibilities will include but may not be limited to:
Pre-litigation Factual Investigation and Legal Research
•Draft pre-litigation memoranda, reports and other internal documents.
•Present cases to the Legal Committee for evaluation and authorization of litigation;
•Research civil liberties questions, and prepare legal memoranda and demand letters;
•Investigate complaints. Perform investigations of complainants, internet searches and other research to investigate facts regarding complaints received.
Intake Management
•Database and Complaint Management

oUpdate complaint records with information from investigations or other actions taken on the complaint within the Legal Program.
oProcess intake monthly
•Import complaints.

oRespond to requests for legal assistance received at the affiliate by referring solicitors to the website.
•Compile, analyze and present statistical data regarding the Legal Program’s intake database and program.
•Develop and update informational materials in response to common inquiries. Maintain resource materials and complaint forms.
Chapters
•Assist chapters who have identified advocacy issues for which litigation might be appropriate in accessing appropriate complaint data and developing strategy.
•Reach out to chapters when local counsel would be appropriate.
Administrative
•Supervise law students who would assist in investigations and legal research.
•Maintain files for legal intake.
•Assure that photocopying, mailing letters, courthouse filings and coordinating meetings for the Legal Department are completed as directed by Legal Director and Legal Program Associate.
Requirements
•JD from accredited law school;
•Licensed to practice law and a member of the State Bar of Texas;
•Database knowledge and excellent typing skills;
•Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
•Ability to set/change priorities according to deadline requirements;
•Ability to provide quality work product by assigned deadlines;

The Labor and State Affairs Section of the Attorney General’s Office in Anchorage is recruiting for a full-time attorney in Anchorage to represent the Office of Rate Review in the Department of Health and Social Services, primarily handling Medicaid rate appeals. The Office of Rate Review establishes Medicaid rates for hospitals, nursing homes, and other health care facilities throughout the state. The position represents the Office of Rate Review in litigation, mediation, and settlement of payment rates for health care facilities, and assists the Office of Rate Review in the development of Medicaid rate setting regulations. The position also advises the Office of Rate Review on federal and state laws relating to health care. As necessary, the position may also provide advice and represent state agencies in various other matters involving, for example, constitutional claims, election and campaign finance laws, public official financial interest disclosure, the open meetings act, the public records act, and contracts.
The position requires a minimum of two full years of licensed practice of law, but additional experience is highly preferred. Experience in transactions involving financial data, audits, and reviews is preferred. Strong writing and analytical skills as well as the ability to understand and communicate the meaning of complex technical data are important for success in this position. A background in health care accounting is helpful but is not required. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to handle all phases of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, administrative hearings, and judicial appeals. Because mediation and negotiations skills are also needed to succeed in this position, the ideal candidate will bring creativity and experience in facilitation and alternative dispute resolution.

The Department of Law, Civil Division, Anchorage, is recruiting for the position of Collections Coordinator in the Collections & Support Section.
The Collections Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the collections unit. This unit collects a variety of debts owed to the state including: criminal fines, costs and surcharges; traffic fines; default judgments; and civil judgments. The unit also collects restitution in criminal cases and juvenile delinquency matters and disburses the funds to the restitution recipient.
The Collections Coordinator has a wide range of duties. Among other things, the Collections Coordinator responds to inquiries from and acts as a liaison with the court system, case parties, and other state agencies; gathers collection unit data and prepares reports based on that data; provides input on proposed legislative and regulatory changes affecting the collections process; oversees the annual permanent fund dividend attachment process and acts as a liaison with the Department of Revenue during that process; reviews and prepares policies and procedures for the unit; provides staff training for the unit; works with the fiscal office on various collections issues; directly handles all non-restitution criminal collection cases; audits collections records; and oversees the maintenance and upgrades of the collections unit database and related computer applications. The Collections Coordinator also supervises the daily work activities of five administrative clerks and two litigation assistants.
The person hired for this position should possess excellent management skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a team environment. Experience with collection matters is preferred. Experience working with large databases, spreadsheets, and computer programs is required. Prior accounting or bookkeeping experience would be beneficial.
This position is a non-attorney position assigned to the partially exempt service. Beginning salary is $4,320/month DOE and includes a full-time benefit package.
